Exploring Team Explorer
•        After you have created a project, it appears in the Team Explorer.
-        The Process Guidance documents also appear in the main window.

•        Keep in mind that these process guidance docs are just another part of the project’s portal – meaning
you can close and reopen them at any time.
-        Note the link to Project Portal on the left side.

•        In the Team Explorer window, you have a newly created Team project.
-        It’s made up of four separate folders and a link to Source Control.
-        At the very top, you have “My Favorites”, which can store you favorite reports, work items,
documents, etc.
-        This works much like Favorites in Internet Explorer.
-        While working with Team Explorer, be sure to refresh its view periodically to ensure you have the
latest status of the project.
•        The four Team project folders are permanent and are aptly name based on the unique components
which they contain.
-        As you have probably suspected, any of these components can be added to your Favorites list.
•        Here is another way to open the Team project’s portal site.

-        When you open the portal site in this way, it will appear in a separate Web browser window, rather
than embedded within the code windows of Visual Studio.
•        “Project Alerts…” (see the previous illustration) allow you to create email notifications for one or more
members based on certain Team project events.

•        The right-click context menu items that you see in Team Explorer are also available from the Team
dropdown menu in Visual Studio.

-        Using the main Team dropdown in Visual Studio is less intuitive than right-clicking items within Team
Explorer.

•        Make sure you have the correct item (Team project, VS Solution/Project, document folder, etc.) selected
in Team Explorer before utilizing the Team dropdown menu.
-        For example, click on an item in Team Explorer to select it and see how the menu choices dynamically
change in the Team dropdown menu.
